MAKE A SCREENSHOT/SCREEN CAPTURE

When you encounter an issue and get in touch with us, sometimes it's hard for us to replicate or see exactly what you're going through. We know this can be frustrating! You may be asked to provide a screenshot to help us better assist you. Screenshots, also known as screen captures, can be taken manually or with the aid of specialized software.

Take a Manual Screenshot

WINDOWS

  1. Make sure the area of your screen that you want to 'snap' a picture of is visible and unobscured on your desktop

  2. Press the PrtScn key on your keyboard (it will look as if nothing happened, but the image you just snapped will be saved to your Clipboard)

  3. Open Paint, Gimp, Illustrator, or a similar photo manipulation program (Start menu, then All Programs, then Accessories, then Paint or similar program name)

  4. Navigate to the Edit menu and click Paste, or you can press Ctrl+V on your keyboard

  5. Click File and then Save As

  6. In the box that pops up, change the "Save As Type" to PNG or JPG

  7. Type any file name you like and choose a location that is easy for you to remember, like the Desktop, and click the Save button

MAC

Whole Screen Screenshot

  1. Make sure the area of your screen that you want to 'snap' a picture of is visible and unobscured on your desktop

  2. Press the Command+Shift+3 keys on your keyboard at the same time

  3. A screenshot of your whole visible screen will appear on your Desktop

Targeted screenshot

  1. Make sure the area of your screen that you want to 'snap' a picture of is visible and unobscured on your desktop

  2. Press the Command+Shift+4 keys on your keyboard at the same time

  3. Using the crosshairs that appear, select the area you want to 'snap' a picture of

  4. Hold the Shift, Option or Space bar keys while you drag the area to resize the selection area

  5. To cancel, press the Escape (esc) key before you release the mouse button
  6. A screenshot of your selected visible screen area will appear on your Desktop

Easy-To-Use Programs

Utilizing screenshots is a great way to help others see what you see. If you believe you may use them on a more consistent basis you may want to install a program to help you better format your shots. Here are a few we suggest:

WINDOWS

If you are using a Windows Operating System we suggest you try ScreenHunter Free. This free program has a simple interface that makes this operation surprisingly easy. Users can select a single hot key to take screen captures, as well as select whether they'd like a full-screen capture, capture a window, or simple a small rectangle (which brings up crosshairs that let you zero in on target).

MAC

If you are using a Mac Operating System we suggest you try Capture Me. Mac users know that there is a great built in screenshot built into OS X, so what could this offer? Sometimes it's nice to be able to choose what file format your capture saves in, copy it to the clipboard without holding down four keys at once, or resize it on the fly. It's also common to want to take successive shots of the exact same position on the screen without moving the capture region at all, or make all your captures the same size. These tasks are handled with ease with Capture Me.

LINUX

If you are using a Linux Operating System we suggest you try KSnapshot. Just like Mac, Linux has a great built in screenshot tool, so what does KSnapshot offer? Users can select whether they'd like a full-screen capture, capture a window, or simple a small rectangle (which brings up crosshairs that let you zero in on target). You can also set a delay so you can position your mouse just right.

Once You Have Your Screenshots

Once you have your screenshot, send your screenshot to us by simply attaching the PNG or JPG file to your email ticket reply. Alternatively, you can upload the file to your public_html folder and tell us the name of the file.
